Kingdom of the Wicked - Kerri Maniscalco

Young witch women are being murdered and their hearts ripped out. When Emilia stumbles upon her own twins lifeless heartless body vengeance is all she can focus on. Her search for answers has her performing dark magic she never imagined she would use, and summoning one of the devils own for answers. Not everything is as it may seem and Emilia is forced to confront a curse almost as old as earth, or risk losing everyone and everything she ever cared about.

I don't even know where to start with this one. I have all these feelings and know that if I sit on them, I will be able to sift through them all to write a really good review, but by then the rawness of the book will be gone and it will just be words and not the feelings behind them. I love and dislike this book at the same time. Halfway through I knew I wouldn't have the answers I craved and knew a flashing "Cliffhanger" sign was approaching. We do get some answers in the end, but not enough and that makes me incredibly displeased.

Kerri Maniscalco, can we talk? I get it! I understand WHY you wrote Kingdom of the Wicked the way you did, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Leaving the ending open and making book lovers all over wait an entire year for answers (that we probably won't even get cause it's a trilogy) is just rude. Also, did you have to make us fall for Wrath? Yes, yes, you did. His character kept us reading when Emilia's faltered. Wrath is this books redemption and I really hope you give him his in the future. At times Emilia felt all over the place and Wrath grounded her back in reality. Don't take this as me not enjoying the book, because I definitely did. Like I could binge all three books right now if they were all out. Are you looking for Beta's? Cause I'm available!

"Only an asshole would think a pretty dress made up for a broken promise." - Emilia

Kingdom of the Wicked almost has a Charley Davidson YA vibe to it. If you enjoy YA books and loved Darynda Jones Charley Davidson series, you'll love/hate Kingdom of the Wicked. I wouldn't suggest this book to those who can't handle cliffhangers or open endings. Maybe wait until all three are out before you pick up your own copy.

Book Two Kingdom of the Cursed is out October 5th, 2021. I've already pre-ordered it, have you?

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars for Kingdom of the Wicked. It had a bumpy start and left me hanging otherwise it would be 5!
